Clear answers about Brand Coherence.
What I do, how I work and the ideas behind the Brand Operating System.
Frequently asked questions
Start with the work. Then the language.
01Who am I and how do I work?
I am a Strategic Brand Leader and Architect. I work directly with CEOs and founders, not for a particular department.
My work is not marketing support or a rebranding exercise. I identify where the company’s strategic narrative is becoming diluted, define the Governing Idea that should guide the organisation, and install that narrative into the way the company operates.
I work in three stages:
- Diagnose the Brand Drift.
- Define the Governing Idea and strategic narrative.
- Install the Brand Operating System across the organisation.
02Who do I work with?
I work directly with CEOs, founders and leadership teams in companies that are scaling, professionalising, repositioning or preparing for investment, succession or exit.
03Is this marketing or a company rebrand?
No. This is not an outsourced marketing project, a communications campaign or a cosmetic rebrand. The work sits with leadership and connects the company’s strategic meaning to decisions, behaviours and organisational routines.
04What is Brand Drift?
Brand Drift is the gradual loss of shared meaning as a company grows. Leaders, teams and functions begin making individually reasonable decisions from different strategic premises, causing the company’s narrative and behaviour to move in different directions.
05Why does Brand Drift happen as companies scale?
Growth increases the distance between the founder’s strategic logic and the people expected to apply it. Tasks and processes are delegated, but the judgement behind them often remains implicit and difficult to transfer.
06What is the Narrative Bottleneck?
The founder becomes the Narrative Bottleneck when the company still depends on one person to explain what it means, determine what fits and resolve questions of strategic priority. The organisation can operate, but it cannot interpret the brand consistently without the founder.
07What is a Governing Idea?
The Governing Idea is the clear strategic logic at the centre of the company. It expresses the customer tension the company exists to address, the point of view it brings and the principles that should guide choices across the organisation.
08What is a Brand Operating System?
A Brand Operating System turns the company’s strategic narrative into something people can use. It connects the Governing Idea to positioning, offers, decisions, leadership routines, sales, product, culture and communication.
09What is Brand Coherence?
Brand Coherence exists when the company’s leadership, choices, behaviour and communication are guided by the same strategic logic. The company can grow and delegate without losing the meaning that made it valuable.
10What changes after the system is installed?
Leadership aligns around one governing narrative. Teams make faster decisions from shared criteria. Sales conversations become clearer, and the company becomes less dependent on the founder’s personal interpretation.
11How does an engagement begin?
It begins with a focused, confidential conversation about where meaning is drifting, what remains founder-dependent and what transition the company is preparing for. No formal brief is required.
The next step
Where is coherence becoming harder to hold?
A first conversation can clarify the transfer challenge and whether a deeper engagement would be useful.
